Weekend in London

May 28, 2007 at 9:37 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 3 Comments

Last Friday Silvia Benedetta Andrea and Paola came to Cambridge to visit me! That was very cool! Then together we went to London for the weekend. We visited the famous London attractions under the usual english rain; it seems to me that it rained more in the last 2 days here than in Italy in the last year. I especially enjoyed the Tower Bridge Exhibition where you can observe the mechanism of the bridge, the Tate Modern Art Gallery (especially because it was free) and Harrods, of course. In London I also met Caterina who was also there with some friends, that was a great coincidence, especially because I’ve never seen Caterina in Italy but only abroad! I believe she is also affected by the travel virus like me 😉

I didn’t bring the camera, so the pics are from Silvia:

Judge Business School seminar

May 24, 2007 at 6:28 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Today I assisted to a seminar in the Judge Business School of Cambridge. The seminar was interesting but the building of that business school is even more corful and interesting, not boring like Bocconi 🙂 Look at this:

And something that I find ever more unexpectedly funny is this british vacuum cleaner (of the college where I leave):

So the conclusion that I reached today is that Brits are much less boring that I expected from previous experiences 😉

This is the Cambridge University Computer Laboratory, the place where I will be working for the next two months, with  Alan Blackwell and his team.

Just to make you laugh a bit: this is my new medium of transportation in Cambridge 😉

Research visiting student in Cambridge University!

May 21, 2007 at 12:50 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

I did it again.

I moved to another country, the 6th –so far- and here I am in Cambridge (UK).

I will be a visiting research student in the Computer Laboratory of the University to continue my PhD research on diagrams. I am now living in Darwin College, just close to the river Cam with all the romantic wood boats 😉

I arrived two days ago and I must admit I had to change my mind about UK cities. Cambridge is very beautiful, romantic and with an antique flavour. There are also uncountable shops with nice and varied choice of cloths, but unfortunately with prohibitive prices (for me)! There is also a market that gives the city a messy cosy southern atmosphere, and many ethnic restaurants and cafés (you know I’m not fan of English food).

So far so good, the weather has been wonderful, it’s full of tourists and the college students are from all over the world. It seems to me that half of the city is just parks and gardens!

Some pics of my new location
